2017 Rick Mitoff Memorial Tournament -
This years scramble tournament featured nine teams with the team of Scott Galbraith, Dustin Galbraith, Tyler McKinney and Caleb Duford thought to be the favorite. Two teams; Troy Monholland, Carol Monholland, Lou Alcala and Shelly Alcala as well as the team of Chuck Stegeman, Jeremy Stegeman, Mike Stegeman and Nate Espinoza were considered to be strong contenders for the first place trophy. On their last hole, the Galbraith team was notified that they were tied for first and needed a birdie if they were to win. Tyler McKinney stuck his approach shot close and they birdied the hole for the apparent lead. In the clubhouse the Galbraith Team discovered they were in a three way tie with the Stegeman team and the Monholland team for first all at nine under par. Meanwhile on the other side of the course the dark horse team of Mike Nichols, Larry O'Brien, Dave Wilson and Zoe Wilson had walked off of the 12th hole with a makeable birdie putt that all four missed. They were seven under with three holes to go. The dark horse team made an improbable run and birdied the last three holes to win the tournament with a 62, ten under par. The Stegeman Team won low net with a 43 1/2. Stan Davis announced that his team played a birdie free round of 84. It was further noted that Bob Hicks did not win.
