With heavy heart, it must be announced that the Ryder Cup will stay in Toppenish for another year! This after the Mount Adams Country Club team easily defeated Black Rock Creek 15.5 to 6.5. On opening day Saturday at Toppenish, BRC dug a hole too deep to climb out when they suffered a 10-1 setback on the road. At home on Sunday, with their backs to the wall, BRC Captains Grant Smith, Jason Eberle and Sean Tudor rallied the team to a split with Toppenish. To each of the 22 golfers that represented BRC, a big thank you. Our team just ran into a buzz saw on Saturday but we look forward to next year and our goal of getting the Cup back home. Also thanks to all who came to watch and those who worked and donated to this exciting event.
Alan Sandlin just shrank the Men’s Club Hole in One contest when he aced number 12 with an 8 iron on October 26th. It was witnessed by Wally Flores, Bubba Hicks and Gary Lamdin. Al’s ace is the 4th ace of the season at BRC. He joins Dave Wilson and Bubba Hicks but Russ Arbuckle’s will not count in the Men’s Club Hole-One Contest since he is not a member.
The last event for the 2016 golf season is the Men’s Club Turkey Shoot. It will be held on November 20th. Breakfast begins at 7:30 and hopefully we not be affected by weather conditions. This event has over the last few years raised almost $2000 that is used to purchase toys for less fortunate youngsters in our community. Special thanks to the Sunnyside Police Department for distribution of the toys and Walmart for their matching contribution and support.
Look for a new name of our course improvement event after the Board of Directors approved naming this in honor of Rick Mitoff. Rick was always the first in line with his time and his equipment to make Black Rock Creek Golf Course something special. Rick passed away last month but not before offering the use of his equipment for one last tree removal project. R.I.P. Richard Mitoff. You will be missed.
Speaking of the Board, ballots are being mailed out the first week of November for open or contested positions on the Board. These ballots must be returned before the annual meeting to be held on December 8th. The Board also announced that the kitchen will now be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Limited service will be available from the Pro Shop personnel on the days.
The Gangsome announced several awards last month. The Birdie Challenge went to Jon Bright and the Sandbagger award went to Scott Andrews. Congratulations to Jon and Scott!!
Finally, the starting times for the Gangsome and Max’s Group will now be 9 A.M. if weather conditions allow.
